JAPN 305: Introduction to Japanese Culture & Civilization
Course Description:
This course introduces various aspects of Japanese culture, including history, geography, religion, government, politics, customs and traditions. After a broad historical overview beginning in prehistory, this course focuses on the Tokugawa period as the bedrock for understanding modern Japanese society as a mass society. Taught in English.
Reflective Narrative:
More than learning new things from this course taking it allowed me to connect a lot of dots from after my study abroad, and from what I have seen through daily life watching anime, and reading manga. An important part of understanding something is knowing the history that it came from, and this course allowed me to further reinforce past experiences from living in Japan.
